Visual Development for The Lost World - 3D Animation

The Lost World-3D Animation is an Independent Project by select students from Humber College's Multimedia 3D Animation Class of 2011 in which I was fortunate enough to be asked to contribute.

Below are warm up/concept/story sketches based on Alex Nikolaev's preliminary rough script. These are all representations only since designs haven't been finalized yet. I just gotta get my rusty drawing hand working again and out from hibernation:

In ancient times, when magic was all too real and demigods walked the Earth...great empires rose and fell. One Great civilization developed so far, that it tapped into forbidden magic of the gods. The gods were angered, and collapsed the empire. The survivors were scattered, and their ways forgotten. But not by everybody...the remnants of the civilization still retained some traditions, and their Dark Templars were able to recover some magic. The dominant civilization invaded the remnants. Thinking they had the advantage...Dark Templars rose to defend their tribes. To be continued...

-tribal village is being attacked by barbarians (destruction ppl killed, etc..)
-Dark Templar is praying in the temple
-back to village, shows how thugs slip into the temple
-Thugs try to kill the Templar, but get overpowered
-Templar Exits the Temple, Voice-over: so much destruction..., its time to put an end to this!
-Templar summons ancient spirits

I'm on a Transformers binge right now! Can't get enough of the movies and Megan Fox. So, I borrowed some books at my local library for reference and inspiration. I hope this is a start of something cool.

This is my initial sketch of Arcee inspired from 'The Transformers More Than Meets The Eye Official GuideBook' by IDW Publishing. The pose is close to reference but modified to my own artistic licence or approach. At this stage it is very loose, and no commitment to lines yet. Next up is to clear up shapes, foreshortening, and angles of planes. I'm not even decided whether to go digital or traditional. Any comments or suggestions? ...

This is an attempted portrait/caricature drawing for a colleague of mine, Juan Manuel, on his FACEBOOK graffitti wall. After doing this, i realized how desperately i needed to buy a wacom tablet as drawing with a mouse is not too fun at all. i'm really behind with the times. My being left handed did not help at all because to draw with the mouse, i had to use my right hand which is my non-drawing hand. He liked it though which was satisfying to me. But i intend to make a comeback once i buy my first tablet. Until then, it's my mouse and my non-drawing hand.

i am moving to newmarket where i bought my first house (home for my family) and so while in the midst of the busy packing and everything, i have unearthed some stuff from my max the mutt days. from time to time tho, i would post these what i would call 'fillers' just to bring life to these drawings. it travels me back in time and relive happy memories.

jansen and comic great-whilce portacio at the toronto comicon (april 18). this is a long time coming and very worthwhile. getting to meet him is like a childhood dream come true. i'm high now with some lethal dose of inspiration to start drawing again...priceless!

i was playing with head shapes and somehow i thought that a skinny elongated head would fit him well.

i still haven't figured out yet as to why i keep drawing superman whenever i get a chance of a blank piece of paper and pen. i scanned this piece and put it on treshold hence, the darker lines. i hope the tilt of the head didn't make it more like a model pose. i still wanna keep a more hero like stance.

this was taken on last summers fan expo at the mtcc. jim lee is the man and a living legend, (for me personally). it was this artist that sparked my interest in comicbooks a while back ago while growing up in the philippines. who'd knew i'd get a chance to meet him in person and in canada too. definitely a highlight for me.
